OpenAI has officially announced its approach to advertising inside ChatGPT. And yes – ads are coming.
Here’s what caught my attention 👇
🔹 Ads will appear for free users and ChatGPT Go.
Paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) will stay ad-free.
🔹 Ads won’t influence answers
They’ll be clearly labeled and separated from AI responses.
🔹 Privacy-first approach
OpenAI says conversations won’t be sold to advertisers.
🔹 Early testing in the U.S.
Rollout will be gradual before expanding globally.
🔹 High entry cost (so far) 💸
Early tests show CPM around $60+, much higher than Google or Meta.
🔹 Limited reporting (for now) 📊
No full performance dashboard yet.
No clear breakdown by intent, conversation type, or deep attribution.
💡 Why this is interesting:
For the first time, we may see “search intent + conversation context” advertising at scale.
Imagine:
➡️ Not just keywords
➡️ Not just audiences
➡️ But real-time user intent inside AI chats
This could become:
📌 A new performance channel
📌 A new attribution challenge
📌 A new opportunity for early movers
But right now:
⚠️ High CPM
⚠️ Limited transparency
⚠️ Early-stage ecosystem
Which means: experimentation > scaling.
As PPC specialists and marketers, it’s worth watching closely.
The next big ad platform might not be a search engine…
It might be a conversation. 🤖📈
What do you think: opportunity or risk?
